Week 2

Week 2
African Savannah
This week the children and I began learning all about the African Savannah. We've all enjoyed cuddling in the chair each morning to read about the characteristics of grasslands and the creatures living in the Savannah (this week lions, ants, and giraffes). We've also been reading Henry Huggins together; so far the girls really love this book!

Language Arts
Rebekah was super excited this week when she read a book all by herself! By the end of the week she was able to read the first two books in the Bob series independently! She completed lessons 31 and 32 in The Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading; finishing up the short a section and moving into short e words. She completed book B in the Explode the Code Series and began letter C in book C. I am amazed at how quickly she is catching on to sounding out words!
Miriam finished reading Teach Us, Amelia Bedelia aloud. She also completed through lesson 132 in The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading and lesson 7 in Explode the Code book 4. She completed step 20 during our All About Spelling time. Growing with Grammar was all about sentence subjects this week.
Math
Rebekah finished section 4 in Singapore's Earlybird math. I am so glad to be done with the numerical order section...how many times can one write what number comes before or after other numbers??? Rebekah never complained once about doing the same exact thing over and over again for days on end; she is proving to be quite a diligent worker! She also finished lessons 5 and 6 in RightStart A.
Miriam completed lessons 7 and 8 in Rightstart B.
Art

The children really enjoyed coloring with their new chalk pastels this week. They had a lot of fun experimenting with blending colors on their papers.
