We had a wonderful school week this week! Tuesday was a snow day so we didn't have any co-op classes or dance. We got to spend the day playing in the snow, drinking hot chocolate, watching the inauguration, and learning about our new president. It was such a fun day for Miriam; she was really into the inauguration and learning all about Obama. She's been carrying her "Obama" easy reader around all week reading all about our new President.
Reading
Miriam completed lesson 7 in Explode the Code 3 this week. She learned about the long "a" sound in The Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading and finished the silent "e" section as well.
We've been reading Stuart Little everyday- just one chapter to go tonight at bedtime.
Math
Miriam finished the addition section in Singapore 1A today. She loved the coloring sheet where she got to color each section a certain color depending on the answer to the addition problem.

We did lesson 32 in
RightStart Math. Miriam loves learning about money. We practiced with real pennies, nickles, and dimes everyday this week. Today she was counting out money all the way to 95 cents! She uses the abacus to "see" if she needs dimes, nickles, or pennies. I'm not sure she could just hand me 75 cents if I asked for it without putting 75 on the abacus first- but I think she's doing an amazing job!
Bible
This week we finished our Old Testament reading. The girls memorized Psalm 136:1.
Handwriting

Miriam is much happier with handwriting this week now that we've moved to the real lessons in A Reason For Handwriting A. It's back to being one of her favorite parts of the day. She was so proud of writing her verse in her best handwriting today!
Preschool
Rebekah wanted me to put in this picture of her and her favorite things.

She finished the above Rod and Staff workbook this week. She is loving school right now! She is still doing wonderfully on the sounds many letters make; she added C, D, and I to her list this week. She gets C almost
everytime, but sometimes mixes up B and D.

She's loving these two books. I love that they are pretty cheap and have 200 pages each, so I just let her do as many pages as she wants and she also loves that she is able to choose her own pages to do each day.

Michael also loves the cutting book. He's actually very good at cutting straight lines around the edge of the paper. He always wants to be involved in what we are doing during school time. Today he took a black marker to his hands and face while I was working on math with Miriam-yikes! (Rebekah actually drew the lines on the path in that page for him- he did not draw those lines- though he always gives it a try!)
