Galloping the Globe

This week we begin truly galloping the globe. We'll be spending about a week in each country that we are learning about. We will stop for 4 weeks in the United States in November to talk about our community, our country, a little of it's history, and also spend a week on Thanksgiving. We'll also be taking the month of December to study Christmas traditions around the world along with a special advent study, and I hope we will be making a Jesse Tree.
The picture above includes the books that we will be using for almost every country study-I won't be showing them every week in our "weekly report" though we will be reading from them every week. Children Just Like Me and How People Live will give us a "snapshot" of how a family and/or child lives in each country. Stories From Around the World has traditional stories from many of the countries we will be studying. Missionary Stories with the Millers tells a story about a missionary from many of the countries. Geography from A to Z will teach us about the landforms present in the countries we study.
Our goal for the year is not to memorize the facts about each country, but to learn about the people and culture about the country. Miriam will learn that the people and cultures of other countries are both similar and different than we are, but that God loves us all.
