Weekly Report 9/22-9/26 : Germany

Week 4 - Germany
Galloping the Globe
We spent a very busy week in Germany during school time this week. Miriam loved listening to the Classical Kids CD "Mr. Bach Comes to Call." She listened to the CD at least 3 times during the week. I've got the Beethoven and Handel CDs on hold at the library, but they haven't arrived yet. I know she'll enjoy listening to those as well, even if we are no longer doing Germany when they arrive.

We cooked Apfelpfannekuchen (apple pancakes) for brunch one morning. I am surprised there were any apples left to put in the pancakes; the children kept eating them! Miriam and Michael loved the pancakes, but Rebekah only ate a few bites of hers.
We looked at pictures of castles in Germany and then the children built their own castles with blocks and painted pictures of castles. The girls made Goldilocks and the Three Bears puppets and had a puppet show.

Reading
Miriam completed lessons 1 and 2 in Explode the Code 2 and also finished up to lesson 50 in The Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading.

Math
Miriam did lessons 15 - 17 in Singapore Earlybird 2a. She learned about sets of ten and practiced writing the words for numbers eleven to twenty.

Science
We gave up on science this week. First I searched the city for glycerin to make giant bubbles. I couldn't find a bottle of glycerin anywhere! I finally found glycerin soaps at the craft store and then it rained for the rest of the week! We'll be doing our "air" experiments next week.

Bible

We finished reading about Joseph and his family this week. Miriam also began learning Psalm 23. She can recite the first 2 verses already!

Fall Fun Day
Friday was supposed to be our outdoor science experiment day-but it was cold and rainy so we spent the day celebrating the beginning of Fall instead. The girls made their own Fall placemats by stamping apple halves in red and green paint. They also made sugar cookies into Fall shapes and decorated the cookies in Fall colors.

Looks like a fun, fun week! We've not made it to Germany yet, we're still in Israel for our Galloping the Globe.
Love the placemats and the cookies-what fun!
Thanks for sharing your week and the great photos.
