She also loved reading aloud a play from her Bob Jones Reading 3 book with me. She is currently reading Pony on the Porch during her independent reading time.Rebekah was very excited to read her first real book this week. She read quite a bit of Hop on Pop; I helped her with the longer words. She also read a few stories out of a Dick and Jane book this week. In Explode the Code book 1 she completed lesson 2. She also worked on lesson 40 in The Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading.
Math
Miriam worked on counting money through quarters this week as well as number family addition and subtraction. Rebekah completed unit 8 on simple addition in her Bob Jones Kindergarten book.History
We read First Dog over and over this week; Rebekah and Michael loved the book. I had hoped to read it our first week of school during the study of nomads, but it wasn't available from the library that week.We continued to learn about ancient Egyptians this week, learning about mummies and pyramids. The children enjoyed painting their cuneiform tables that we made last week. The girls also loved building pyramids with legos. They used almost every Lego we own to make a city of pyramids in our living room this week. We also enjoy many read alouds this week. Miriam read Mummies in the Morning independently this week and is almost finished with the Mummies and Pyramids Magic Tree House Research Guide also.
We learned more about the properties of matter this week. We talked about the fact that all matter has weight and takes up space. We did several experiments including submerging a plastic bottle under water to show that air takes up space and weighing an empty balloon and a full balloon to show that air has weight. The kids also watched several videos on Discovery Streaming including Magic School Bus Goes on Air.
